About Us
Woodward Foods Australia has been proudly farming, producing, and distributing the finest quality beef and lamb across the country since 1888. We are a leading meat processor deeply committed to sustainability and providing our customers with premium meat sourced from natural, pure Australian lands. To honor that commitment, our core operations and abattoir are proudly based in Swan Hill, situated in the iconic and world-renowned Murray Valley River region. Supported by our busy distribution depots in Adelaide, Sydney, and Brisbane, we deliver exceptional products to tables nationwide.

We are currently looking for a dedicated, full-time Skilled Meat Worker to join our Swan Hill team on a permanent basis.

As a vital part of our processing floor, your day-to-day work will be hands-on and dynamic. You will be stepping in to help us maintain our high production standards by taking on a variety of duties. This involves:
  • Operating restraining and stunning equipment to safely and humanely process livestock, including severing jugular veins to facilitate dressing.
  • Carefully opening, eviscerating, and preparing carcasses for the next stages of processing by removing hides, internal organs, and head meat.
  • Making sure everything meets our strict hygiene standards by washing, scraping, and perfectly trimming meat to remove any blood or foreign material.
  • Using your knife skills to skillfully separate meat, fat, and tissue from the bone.
  • Portioning sides and quarters of meat into standard, market-ready cuts—like rumps, flanks, and shoulders—while making sure to trim away internal fat, bruises, and clots so the meat is perfect for packing.
  • Operating the switching controls to smoothly direct and drop carcasses and meat cuts from the supply rails right onto the boning tables.
  • Occasionally assisting with slaughtering procedures that align with specific religious customs, depending on the day's production requirements.
What You Bring to the Table
We're looking for someone reliable who takes pride in a hard day's work and understands the rhythm of an active processing facility. To hit the ground running with us, you will need to bring at least one year of hands-on experience working in an abattoir, boning room, kill floor, or a very similar environment.

You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, highly physical setting and have a steady hand with processing tools and heavy machinery—including proven experience operating a bandsaw safely and efficiently. A keen eye for detail is essential, as you'll be responsible for making sure our cuts meet the premium quality Woodward Foods is known for.

Most importantly, you need to be a team player with a strong, proactive approach to workplace health and safety. A solid understanding of strict hygiene practices, hazard awareness, and respectful animal welfare standards is an absolute must to succeed in this role.

Ready to Join Us?
If you're looking for a stable, long-term role with a historic Australian company and have the skills we need, we'd love to hear from you. We offer a supportive team environment and the opportunity to build a solid career in the beautiful Murray Valley region.

To apply, please submit your up-to-date resume and a brief cover letter highlighting your relevant meat processing experience.

Woodward Foods Australia is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all of our team members
