Key Responsibilities
As a Chef at Relish on Main, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Designing, refining, and executing menu items that reflect our contemporary menu offerings, including premium steaks, seafood, pasta, gourmet burgers, and seasonal specials
- Planning menus in collaboration with management, while considering food trends, customer preferences, and cost efficiency
- Estimating food and labour costs, managing stock levels, and ordering high-quality ingredients from approved suppliers
- Preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard, ensuring attention to flavour, portioning, and visual presentation
- Overseeing all stages of food preparation to maintain quality control and consistency across lunch and dinner service
- Coordinating with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service delivery and positive customer experiences
- Demonstrating advanced cooking techniques and providing guidance to kitchen staff on preparation methods and plating standards
- Supervising and training junior kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment
- Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations at all times
- Managing kitchen workflow during peak service periods, ensuring efficiency without compromising quality
- Monitoring stock rotation, minimising waste, and implementing cost-control strategies
- Contributing to the development of new dishes, specials, and menu innovations aligned with the restaurant's brand
- Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or any related relevant qualification
- Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar Chef role within a full-service restaurant
- Strong knowledge of modern Australian cuisine and experience working with a variety of ingredients including meats, seafood, and international flavours
- Proven ability to manage kitchen operations and perform under pressure in a high-volume environment
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
- Sound understanding of food safety standards and kitchen compliance requirements
- Passion for food, creativity in menu development, and commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences
