Position Summary
The Tamper Trap is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to take responsibility for kitchen operations and maintain the café's high food quality standards. The successful candidate will contribute to menu development, oversee food preparation, and ensure efficient kitchen workflow during busy service periods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and update menu items in collaboration with management, focusing on seasonal ingredients and café-style offerings
  • Estimate food and labour costs, manage portion control, and assist with stock ordering and inventory management
  • Prepare and cook a variety of breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes to a consistently high standard
  • Oversee food preparation processes to ensure quality, taste, and presentation meet established expectations
  • Monitor kitchen operations during service to ensure timely delivery of meals
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health regulations
  • Train and guide kitchen staff on food preparation techniques and presentation standards
  • Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
  • Manage stock rotation, minimise wastage, and implement efficient kitchen practices
  • Assist in developing new menu items and seasonal specials
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is used and maintained properly
  • Store, label, and preserve food items appropriately, including refrigeration and freezing where required
Qualifications and Experience
  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (preferred but not required)
  • Diploma of Hospitality Management, or related qualification (preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience as a Chef
Skills and Other Requirements
  • Experience working in a busy café, brunch venue, or similar fast-paced kitchen environment preferred
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Ability to manage multiple orders efficiently during peak periods
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise and train junior kitchen staff
