Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers is looking for a Manager Ammonia to manage and coordinate the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the ammonia plant during assigned shifts. The Manager is responsible for achieving production targets, maintaining plant integrity, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards, and managing shift personnel in accordance with standard operating procedures and organizational policies. This role plays a critical part in optimizing plant performance, minimizing unplanned downtime, and driving operational excellence across the production unit.

With a commitment to innovation and efficiency, PCF is developing Project Ceres, which is Australia's largest urea manufacturing plant, located in Karratha, Western Australia.

The role ensures the achievement of production objectives by implementing policies and optimizing resource utilization while maintaining ammonia and refrigerant cooling systems, facility boilers, hot water, high-pressure water, chilled water, and plant air systems. Responsibilities include ensuring the safe operation of all utility systems, conducting daily inspections for safety and compliance, planning and prioritizing repairs, maintaining equipment history and repair records, adhering to GMP standards, and assisting with other maintenance tasks as required by management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain all ammonia systems and refrigerant cooling systems.
  • Responsible for safe handling and operation of ammonia facility and refrigerant systems.
  • Responsible for safe operations and upkeep of facility boiler systems.
  • Responsible for safe operations and upkeep of Quickwater hot water systems.
  • Responsible for safe operation and upkeep of Roto jet high pressure water system.
  • Responsible for safe operation and upkeep of facility chilled water systems.
  • Responsible for safe operation and upkeep of plant supplied air systems.
  • Inspect all systems daily for records, safety, and correct operation. · Follow all GMP's where applicable
  • Help with planning and prioritizing repairs and maintenance of Utilities and Ammonia/Freon systems with production requirements and follow up accordingly.
  • Maintain equipment history and repair records.
  • Other maintenance duties as requested by management
Education/ Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, or equivalent. Additional certifications in safety or process operations (preferred).
  • 20 to 24 years of experience in ammonia plant operations (preferably with large-scale or integrated chemical complexes).
  • At least 8-10 years in a managerial or shift leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of ammonia production processes (e.g., steam methane/AT reforming, air separation, synthesis loop).
  • Familiarity with DCS (Distributed Control Systems) and plant automation tools.
  • Specialized Training or Certification: Certification in ammonia or refrigerant systems (e.g., RETA - Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association certifications or equivalent). o Training in Process Safety Management (PSM) or Safe Handling of Ammonia Refrigerants.
  • Additional Skills/Knowledge (optional but desirable): Understanding of GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) as mentioned. o Familiarity with industrial boiler operation and maintenance, and systems like Roto jets or Quickwater hot water systems.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Good understanding of PCIDs, SOPs, Interlock/Logic diagrams, PTW systems, and root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with a focus on safety and efficiency.
