Position Overview
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Principal Structural Engineer to support the design, analysis, and certification of telecommunications infrastructure, including towers, monopoles, rooftop structures, and related equipment mounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and analysing telecommunications structures including lattice towers, monopoles, guyed masts, rooftop mounts, equipment platforms, antenna headframes, and foundations.
- Performing detailed structural calculations for wind loading, equipment loading (antennas, RRUs, microwave dishes), and structural upgrades in accordance with Australian Standards (including AS/NZS 1170 series and relevant steel and concrete standards).
- Assessing existing telecommunication towers and rooftop structures for capacity upgrades, 5G equipment additions, and co-location of carriers.
- Conducting structural inspections and condition assessments of towers, poles, and mounting systems to determine structural integrity and compliance.
- Designing strengthening and remediation solutions for overstressed or deteriorated structures.
- Preparing certified engineering drawings, technical specifications, structural reports, and compliance documentation for council and regulatory approvals.
- Reviewing geotechnical reports and designing appropriate footing and foundation systems for telecommunications structures.
- Providing structural certification and sign-off for new installations, upgrades, and modifications.
- Liaising with project managers, riggers, contractors, and carriers to ensure structural works are implemented in accordance with approved designs.
- Reviewing shop drawings and fabrication details for steel tower components and connection systems.
- Monitoring on-site structural works and ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements.
- Identifying structural risks and proposing cost-effective and compliant engineering solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant Telecom structural engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and wind loading requirements.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
